Support groups offer information about a disease or condition and its symptoms and treatment. Some people assume that support groups are like group therapy, which is far from the truth. Support groups often host speakers, such as doctors and nurses, who share current treatment and research information about your illness or condition. Talking to others in a similar situation offers you the opportunity to share experiences and practical advice and learn more about what you are facing. And who knows? You may make some friends while you're there!
