Gloria Lester

"I can't say enough about the wonderful treatment I received at Cabell Huntington Hospital and the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center ? from the valets who parked my car to the physicians and nurses who treated me," said Gloria Lester. "Everywhere I went, people went out of their way to help me."

Gloria recently completed treatment for ovarian cancer that included several surgeries and chemotherapy.

"The cancer was discovered in June 2005," she explained, "and my husband and I discussed going to the Mayo Clinic or another regional center. Then I met with Dr. Oakley, and he explained that my treatment would be essentially the same no matter where I went."

"I really appreciate the care he and his nurses have taken with me every step of the way," she added. "He will talk to you as long as you need him to, answering questions and explaining things. He's a straight-shooter about the facts of your case, but he?s also very encouraging."

Gloria was admitted to Cabell Huntington when she had her surgeries, and she was impressed with the care she received.

"The nursing staff on the Oncology Unit went beyond the call," she said. "They were so wonderful that I asked to speak to their supervisor so I could tell her."

Now that her treatment is over, Gloria is taking it day by day.

"My faith in God, the love and support of my husband and family and the care I received at the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center have gotten me this far," she said, "and I appreciate every day."
