The Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Diagnostic Breast Center at Cabell Huntington Hospital has earned the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence recognition from the American College of Radiology (ACR). The center is the only one in the Tri-State and only the third in the state of West Virginia.
By awarding facilities the status of Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in all of the College's voluntary, breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.
"To be the only center in the Tri-State and the third in the entire state of West Virginia with this designation speaks volumes to the type of care our patients receive when they use our services," said Chad Schaeffer, executive director of the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The breast imaging services at the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center are fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that this facility has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.
"If there is a way for us to measure and monitor our quality outcomes, we want to be a part of it," Schaeffer said. "Our team of experts is continually engaged in seeking excellence for our patients and this designation shows their dedication."
