Surgical Oncology Department at Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center Expands
The steadily increasing number of new patients and the addition of new, specialized physicians and services have resulted in the expansion of the Surgical Oncology Department at the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center. Surgeons who specialize in urologic oncology, head and neck cancers and gynecologic cancers recently relocated to the 2nd floor of the cancer center, where new exam rooms, procedures rooms and a waiting area were added. The expansion is the result of the ECCC's growing depth and breadth of services available, including minimally invasive robotic technology and state-of-the-art ultrasound procedures.
"To be in a cancer center that is only three years old and to already be moving to a second phase of expansion shows that there is great growth," Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center Director Lynn Jarrell said. "We continue to add services and physicians across the spectrum of cancer care, which has required that we have additional space."
Patients for surgical oncology procedures and appointments now have their own waiting area with a more comfortable and quiet environment.
"Not only are these changes a comfort for patients, but they also allow patients to navigate the cancer center better," Jarrell said.
The Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center opened in January 2006 and has attracted patients from around the country for cancer treatments.
