Children fighting cancer at ECCC become Queens and Heroes
Children fighting cancer at the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center were transformed into tiny princesses and superheroes Wednesday during an event presented by the For A Day Foundation.
Five-year-old Rianne Henson shyly showed off her makeup and seven-year-old Noah McGlothin was all smiles when Jenna Edwards, founder of the For a Day Foundation, handed him a toy sword and draped a cape on his back during the two-hour event in the child-friendly pediatric oncology area of the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Edwards is building a Huntington-based chapter of the For A Day Foundation to provide children with chronic illnesses with a regular program. Through role playing, make believe and play therapy, children are given the opportunity to imagine and live out a fantasy while experiencing a moment of the childhood they all deserve.
"The For a Day Foundation is excited to offer its unique quality of life services to seriously ill children of the Huntington area, thanks to a generous grant from Chad Pennington's 1st and 10 Foundation," Edwards said. "We invite members of the community to get involved with our growing programs to continuously provide these services here."
