9th Annual Talk of the Town

In honor of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in September, the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition – West Virginia chapter – will host the 9th Annual Talk of the Town, an awareness and fundraising event set for Friday, September 18, 2009, at Guyan Golf & Country Club in Huntington, West Virginia. This special day includes a luncheon and fall fashion show with guest speaker Rev. Greg Tomlinson of Jefferson Avenue Church of God who will present "Men Joining the Fight Against Women's Cancers" along with his family's personal experience.

This year also celebrates the 10th anniversary of Sharing, the support group for women, their families and friends diagnosed with gynecologic cancers. The group is one of the most successful peer-assisted support groups for women in the Tri-State area. The group meets monthly at the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Dr. Gerard Oakley, gynecologic oncologist at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University and the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center, is the medical advisor. Gigi Gerlach, RN, of the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center is the group facilitator.

Fall fashions provided by Chico's of Pullman Square in downtown Huntington will be modeled by cancer survivors and community residents. Information on Ovarian Cancer will be presented in the parlor before and after the luncheon. Lunch begins at noon.
